Bargaining: Initial Contract

Bargaining Update

On November 1, 2018, the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) certified the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) as the exclusive bargaining agent for adjunct faculty teaching college credit courses.   Thereafter, as required by law, the College and SEIU entered into collective bargaining to negotiate the terms and conditions of employment for these adjunct faculty members.  The first bargaining session was conducted on March 25, 2019.  The agendas and minutes for bargaining sessions are posted to the Legal Affairs webpage under the “Labor Relations – SEIU (Part-Time Faculty)” link (https://www.seminolestate.edu/legal-affairs/seiu-part-time-faculty). The bargaining sessions are public meetings and anyone may attend and observe the sessions.

Since bargaining began, the College and SEIU have reached several “tentative agreements”. Tentative agreements (“TA’s”) represent the agreement of the negotiators but still require final approval by the members of the union and by the College’s Board of Trustees.  The TA’s will be presented to eligible adjuncts for a vote and for the approval of the Board of Trustees once all the articles representing the entire collective bargaining agreement have reached the TA status.  Copies of the TA’s can be accessed from the links below.

There is no specific time line in the law for completion of the bargaining process.  Please stay informed by checking the adjunct bargaining webpage for the agendas and minutes of the bargaining sessions and look for new TA’s as they are approved by the bargaining team.  In addition, if you have any specific questions as bargaining progresses, feel free to send us your question through the portal at the following link: https://www.seminolestate.edu/hr/adjunct-unionization/adjunct-questions
