Bomb Threat Emergency Response Plan

Safety and Security Dispatcher is alerted via campus call, ext. 2178 (407.708.2178 from an off-campus phone, cell phone, or on-campus pay phone) or 911 call.

  • Chief of Security alerted.
  • Chair of Emergency Response Team alerted.
  • If an evacuation is called for: Check restrooms, store rooms, etc. to verify that everyone received word to evacuate.

Imminent Threat -- suspected device found:

  • Identify caller.
  • Dispatch officers to the site.
  • Officers at site assess situation, secure building, ensure evacuation, establish perimeter, control crowd and summon medical assistance if necessary.
  • Alert Emergency First Responders.
  • Direct responders to site and remove traffic bollards, if necessary.
  • Direct evacuees away from the area and to a safe place.
  • Alert Marketing and Communications.
  • Answer/refer incoming calls.

Non-imminent Threat:

  • Dispatch officers to search suspected site (If device found, treat as Imminent Threat).
  • Alert Marketing and Communications.
  • Reassess threat, in consultation with President or next available member of the administrative chain of command.
  • Announce resolution.

Emergency Responders:

  • Respond to threat.
  • Provide medical assistance.
  • Clear building for reentry.
  • Provide official incident information for news media.

Facilities Management:

  • Secure utilities, as necessary.
  • Provide Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning support, as necessary.
  • Post signage at emergency site to inform faculty/staff/students.
  • Provide HAZMAT information.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Alert appropriate top administrators.
  • Issue immediate statement acknowledging that the administration is aware of the incident and is investigating, more information will be released to the news media and the public as it becomes available.
  • Alert appropriate college departments.
  • Provide information to news media and serve as information hub.
  • Establish telephone information hotline and updates as needed.
  • Disseminate administrative decisions regarding the emergency.
  • Appointment a spokesperson/evaluate for the incident.

Emergency Management Team:

  • Conduct initial meeting - called by Team leader.
  • Review situation assessments and updates as they become available.
  • Authorize relocation or closing of staff offices, if necessary.

Room Reservations:

  • Respond to administrative decision to cancel/relocate classes and other activities.

Facility users/Building occupants:

  • If directed to do so by Safety and Security or members of Emergency Management Team, evacuate building and move to Emergency Meeting Area for affected building.
  • Each building occupant will observe his/her own area in an effort to identify anything that is out of place or does not belong.
