Dr. George Kuh

Dr. George Kuh is the founding director of the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois and the chancellor's professor emeritus at Indiana University. He is an expert in student engagement, assessment, institutional improvement, and college and university cultures. Dr. Kuh has published four books in the last 20 years, including “High-Impact Practices” (2008) and “Ensuring Quality & Taking High-Impact Practice to Scalee” (2013) produced as part of the AAC&U LEAP initiative.

High Impact Practices Funding

Are you in need of funding to execute an idea for High Impact Practices? The Seminole State Foundation offers a Mini-Grant Program twice a year with up to $2,000 in funding. Visit their website to learn more.

Faculty Support

Hailee Handel, Coordinator, High Impact Practices, hosts a Faculty Support Hour every Thursday to assist faculty in the development and implementation of HIPs in their courses and to answer any questions along the way. This takes place weekly from 1:00pm-2:00pm in person in SLM L-214 or via zoom.

The HIPs course designation form opens for each semester individually and the timeline is listed below. The application is not meant to be a barrier, but instead to ensure the integrity of the Seminole State High Impact Practices initiative. If there are any concerns with the validity of an application and before denying the application, the HIPs team will reach out to the faculty member with some suggestions and opportunities to work together towards meeting the expectations of a High Impact Practice course.  

 Timeline for HIPs Course Designation – Summer 2025 (Pilot Semester)

  • December 9, 2024 – Course Designation Application Opens
  • January 6, 2025 – Winter Conference Application Workshop
  • January 25, 2025 – Adjunct Academy Application Workshop
  • January 31, 2025 – Course Designation Application Closes
  • March 8, 2025 – Notification Sent to Selected Faculty 

This form includes the three Applied HIPs (Collaborative Projects, Service Learning & Community Based Learning, and Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry) PLUS Experiential Learning: Clinicals & Practicums. (Internships pulled from Career Services & Work-Based Learning pulled from predesignated list)
