Dr. George Kuh

Dr. George Kuh is the founding director of the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois and the chancellor's professor emeritus at Indiana University. He is an expert in student engagement, assessment, institutional improvement, and college and university cultures. Dr. Kuh has published four books in the last 20 years, including “High-Impact Practices” (2008) and “Ensuring Quality & Taking High-Impact Practice to Scalee” (2013) produced as part of the AAC&U LEAP initiative.

The HIPs course designation form opens twice a year, in December for the Summer and Fall semesters and in August for the Spring semester. The upcoming timeline is listed below. The application is not meant to be a barrier, but instead to ensure the integrity of the Seminole State High Impact Practices initiative. If there are any concerns with the validity of an application and before denying the application, the HIPs team will reach out to the faculty member with some suggestions and opportunities to work together towards meeting the expectations of a High Impact Practice course.  

 Timeline for HIPs Course Designation – Summer & Fall 2026

  • December 1, 2025 – Course Designation Application Opens
  • January 23, 2026 – Course Designation Application Closes
  • March 9, 2026 – Notification Sent to Selected Faculty 

This form includes the five Applied HIPs (Capstone Projects, Collaborative Projects, Intensive Writing, Service Learning & Community Based Learning, and Undergraduate Research & Creative Inquiry) PLUS Experiential Learning: Clinicals & Practicums. (Internship designations are provided by Career Services)
