Honors Admissions Requirements and Procedures

The Grindle Honors Institute seeks to recruit a diverse student body that fosters a community of academic excellence. Honors programs at Seminole State admit students entering college for the first time and students who have already begun pursuing their degrees at Seminole State College or other institutions.

Honors Diploma Program

Graduating High School Seniors (First-Time-in-College Students)

  1. Apply and be accepted to Seminole State College and pursuing an Associates in Arts Degree;
  2. Graduate from high school with a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher;
  3. A completed Honors Institute application, which includes an essay.

Current Seminole State and Transfer Students

  1. Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA in at least 6 credit hours of college-level courses and pursuing an Associates in Arts Degree;
  2. Earned no more than 30 college credit hours;
  3. A completed Honors Institute application, which includes an essay.

Dual Enrolled Students

The Honors Institute permits dual enrolled students to take Honors courses. Students must receive permission each semester to enroll. Dual enrolled students must have a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher. An application is required only for students who intend to finish their A.A. degree while at Seminole State College.

Honors in the Major Program - For Bachelor Programs

Honors in the Major programs are departmental programs that encourage the best juniors and seniors to complete advanced coursework and work closely with faculty members on independent projects in their respective disciplines. The Honors in the Major Program is open to students pursuing a baccalaureate degree at Seminole State College in the Health Sciences program or the Information Systems Technology program.

Application Process

  1. Apply and be accepted to Seminole State College.
  2. Graduate with an Associate's degree with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher or earn a 3.5 GPA in your major in upper-division courses (3000 and 4000 levels).
  3. A completed Honors Institute application.
