Honors Academics

Honors Diploma

Student Entering Fall 2021 and Later

The Honors Diploma requires 18 credit hours of honors courses and a minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA at the time of graduation.

Graduation Requirements:

  • Completion of 18 Honors Credits including
    • IDH 2930 Honors Leadership Development (required)
  • Minimum cumulative 3.4 GPA

Student Entering Prior to Fall 2021

The Honors Diploma requires 20 credit hours of honors courses, completion of an honors seminar, completion of a leadership experience, and volunteer hours.

Graduation Requirements:

  • Completion of 20 Honors Credits including
    • IDH 1920 Introduction to Honors
    • One Honors Seminar course (Choose from IDH 2001, IDH 2300, IDH 2903, IDH 2904, IDH 2905, IDH 2930, IDH 2931, IDH 2932, IDH 2950)
    • IDH 2943 Honors Portfolio or IDH 2940 Honors Capstone Project
  • Completion of 40 volunteer hours
  • Completion of an approved leadership experience (SSC Student Life Leadership Retreat, PTK Competitive Edge Certificate, IDH 2930 Honors Leadership Development, IDH 2941 Honors Cooperative Education Internship, IDH 2942 Honors Cooperative Education Internship, IDH 2943 Honors Cooperative Education Internship, or other approved experience)
  • Minimum cumulative 3.4 GPA (3.2 for students who entered prior to fall 2020)

Honors Certificate

The Honors Certificate is no longer available effective fall 2021. Students who started the program prior to fall 2021 will remain eligible to earn the Honors Certificate.

The Honors Certificate requires 13 credit hours of honors courses and completion of volunteer hours.

Graduation Requirements:

  • Completion of 13 Honors Credits including
    • IDH 1920 Introduction to Honors
  • Completion of 20 volunteer hours
  • Minimum cumulative 3.4 GPA (3.2 for students who entered prior to fall 2020)

Honors Courses

Honors courses are an important component of the honors experience. The Honors Institute emphasizes small classes, generally limited to 20 students,  interdisciplinary and team-taught courses, and other engaging learning experiences.

Honors in the Major

The Honors in the Major program is available to students in selected baccalaureate programs. Students must complete a minimum of 9 honors credits at the baccalaureate level (3000 and 4000) and have a cumulative baccalaureate GPA of 3.5 at the time of graduation.
