Graduates of Seminole State College of Florida can more easily transfer their academic credits to Western Governors University thanks to a new transfer institution agreement signed by leaders of both schools. Additionally, graduates and staff from Seminole State can now apply for WGU’s Community College Partner Scholarships, valued up to $3,500.
The common goal for this agreement is to provide Seminole State graduates and employees with flexible, personalized learning pathways to higher education and professional development – including bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and professional certificates – through WGU’s competency-based online programs. This agreement, applicable for three years, formalizes the transfer of applicable credits between the two parties via transfer and/or reverse transfer articulation pathways.
As part of the agreement, WGU will also waive the application fee for any Seminole State graduate or employee who enrolls at the university. WGU has nearly 11,800 students currently enrolled from Florida and more than 21,000 alumni statewide. Nationally, WGU has more than 193,000 current students, and has conferred more than 468,000 degrees.
WGU offers more than 120 fully accredited online programs spanning business, technology, healthcare, and K-12 education. Its flexible, competency-based model allows students to work at their own pace with support from program mentors, and tuition for bachelor’s degrees is priced at approximately $4,000 per six-month term. Students may complete as many courses as they choose within a term, creating a path to faster degree completion and workforce entry.
Seminole State has a strong alumni network with more than 150,000 graduates in its 60-year history. The college has more than 1,300 employees and serves more than 24,000 students. With growing enrollment and over 200 degrees, programs and certificates that prepare students for career success, Seminole State is well-positioned to expand academic options through transfer agreements at the university level.
“This partnership with Western Governors University offers a valuable opportunity for our alumni and employees to advance their education and their careers,” said Dr. Loretta Ovueraye, vice president of academic affairs at Seminole State College. “It’s a meaningful step in supporting lifelong learning and professional growth across our college community.”
“Seminole State has been recognized nationally for community college excellence, and we are proud to partner with such a distinguished institution,” said Kimberly K. Estep, Ph.D., Southeast regional vice president for WGU. “This agreement solidifies our joint commitment to educating Floridians and preparing them for the workforce needs of today and tomorrow.”
