Seminole County funding resident scholarships to attend Seminole State

Seminole County residents looking to upskill or reskill to advance or begin their careers can take free classes at Seminole State through scholarships provided by Seminole County government.

The County is utilizing a portion of its Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) funds to pay for tuition, fees, books and instructional costs for current Seminole State College students who are Seminole County residents and can complete a credential at the College by the end of 2020.

To qualify for funding under Seminole County CARES, you must:

  • Be a Seminole County resident
  • Complete the selected certificate by Dec. 31, 2020

The scholarships are available for certificates in the following programs during the Fall B session which runs from Oct. 19 - Dec. 12: 

Accounting Specialist 

This certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in accounting and business or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed. The content introduces students to the process of data entry into accounting software programs and includes the preparation, presentation, and analysis of financial reports.

Business Specialist

This certificate is designed to prepare students for employment in business environments and/or to provide supplemental training for students previously or currently employed in business occupations. Students will learn the effective use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software programs. This course provides useful information for those involved in owning or operating businesses.

Office Support  

This certificate prepares students to obtain an entry-level position in an office environment. Students in this course will master the keyboard by touch to create business letters, reports, envelopes, labels, and memos using Microsoft Word. Effective oral and written business communication skills are outcomes of this certificate.

Seminole State is also joining the Florida College System’s workforce campaign for rapid credentialing by offering the following Rapid Skills certificates to enable students to earn college credit and get on track for career success in Spring 2021: 

  • Accounting Specialist
  • Associate Project Management
  • Business Specialist
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Office Specialist
