When discussing High Impact Practices at Seminole State College of Florida, study abroad is one of the most transformative opportunities offered to students. These experiences take learning beyond the classroom and into the world—connecting coursework with culture, service and lived experience.
This year, Seminole State is offering two faculty-led study abroad programs that will immerse students in rich academic and cultural exploration: one in the Amazon Rainforest in Peru, and another in Toledo, Spain.
Explore the Amazon Rainforest, Peru
Peru to learn about global sustainability and
environmental stewardship as part of their study
abroad experience.
Students will embark on a journey through one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Guided by expert faculty, this trip combines ecological study with cultural immersion, offering students the chance to experience Peru’s natural wonders and its vibrant history firsthand. From exploring the Amazon’s unique ecosystems to connecting with local communities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of global sustainability and environmental stewardship. Students live in a lodge in the rainforest, with multiple planned exploration hikes per day. This course will be offered in Spring Term 2026, with the trip taking place during Spring Break (March 13-22).
Cost: $3,500 (plus the cost of the course and food while traveling)
Discover Toledo, Spain
Spanish classes at Universidad de Castilla - La Mancha, cultural excursions and guided tours.
Known as the “City of Three Cultures,” Toledo provides a living classroom where history, art, language and culture converge. Students will experience Spanish life while deepening their academic studies through cultural excursions, language immersion and guided tours of landmarks that reflect centuries of cultural exchange. This program highlights the ways study abroad can enrich communication, critical thinking and global citizenship. Students will stay in a refurbished castle in the heart of Toledo, taking Spanish classes in the morning at Universidad de Castilla - La Mancha with led activities and tours in the afternoons/early evenings. There also will be two weekend trips, one day trip to Madrid and one to another nearby city. This course will be offered in the Summer 2026 A Session, with travel to Spain taking place May 16-31.
Cost: $2,800* (plus airfare and the cost of the course)
*dependent on the number of applicants
Applications for both programs are open now! The application deadline is Oct. 1. Students selected for the trips will be notified during the week of Oct. 6. Space is limited, so students are encouraged to apply early.
