EAP Counselors' Guide-Fast Facts

  • EAP courses are designed for speakers or English as a Second Language.
  • EAP students are allowed to pre-register or register for the next level classes before the end of the term.
  • Students who are currently in EAP 1620 and EAP 1640 can register before the end of the term in ENC 1101, as long as they will have met both the reading and writing requirements.
  • Students currently in EAP 1520 or EAP 1540 who are "A" students and anticipate being exempted from EAP 1620 or EAP 1640 cannot register for ENC 1101 before grades are finalized.
  • The English Language Studies Dept. is no longer issuing exemption letters. All student exemptions from EAP 1620 and EAP 1640 will be entered in the student's PeopleSoft Comments section.
  • Speaking and Listening, EAP 0400 and EAP 1500, are required courses. They can be taken by themselves (e.g., Student can only take one course next semester. They can register for Speaking and Listening). Students will be given a diagnostic the first week of classes to see if they can exempt the course.
  • Students who register for EAP 0320 or EAP 0388 must register for EAP 0300 unless previously taken.
  • Students who register for EAP 0420 or EAP 0488 must register for EAP 0400 unless previously taken.
  • Students who register for EAP 1520 or EAP 1540 must register for EAP 1500 unless previously taken.
  • EAP 1560, (High Intermediate/Advanced Grammar), can be taken by itself prior to taking EAP 1540 or EAP 1640.
  • If students take EAP 1540, they must take EAP 1560 as a corequisite unless previously taken.
  • If students take EAP 1640, they must take EAP 1560 as a corequisite unless previously taken or exempt.
