Fall events offer opportunities to learn and explore at Seminole State

Seminole State College of Florida will offer a variety of events this fall, providing opportunities for community members, students and employees to experience the arts, explore the night sky, hear from engaging speakers and connect with career opportunities.

Speaker Series

The Seminole State Speaker Series welcomes presenters with diverse perspectives and areas of expertise. This fall, the series will feature Dr. Sian “Leo” Proctor, astronaut, artist, geoscientist and storyteller, presenting EarthLight World on Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. The presentation is available via livestream for those unable to attend in person. Proctor will share how seeing Earth from space transformed her perspective on the planet, life and leadership.

Night Sky Observation and Exploration

The Emil Buehler Planetarium will host several free events for astronomy enthusiasts and the community. Geneva Dark Sky Nights will take place Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Dec. 12 at Seminole State’s Geneva Center, offering telescope viewing and constellation laser tours. The events begin at 7 p.m. in October and 6 p.m. in November and December and are open to the public with no reservations required.

On Oct. 24, the Planetarium will host The Spooky Star Party from 5-10 p.m., featuring astronomy, spooky science activities, crafts, live animals, fossil hunting, solar telescope observing and plenty of Halloween candy. Astronomical observing will take place from 8-10 p.m. The free event is open to all, and costumes are encouraged.

An Evening with The Curiosity Coach

On Oct. 14, Seminole State will welcome Carl Lubbe, The Curiosity Coach, for EQ in the Age of AI. The presentation will explore emotional intelligence and the human skills that remain essential as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the workplace. In an increasingly technology-driven world, this presentation is bound to spark curiosity and conversation.

The event is free, but registration is recommended. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. in Building C, Room C-108, at the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Career Connections

As “your learning partner for career success,” Seminole State is offering two opportunities for students and community members to connect with employers this fall. The Office of Career Success will host its annual Fall Career Fair on Oct. 7 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. outside the Wayne M. Dench Partnership Center (building UP) at the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. Later in October, job seekers interested in employment and internship opportunities in construction and design can meet with more than 40 employers at the 2026 Construction, Interior Design and CAD Career Fair  on Oct. 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Heathrow Campus. Employers will be hiring for part-time and full-time positions and internships. Attendees are encouraged to bring their résumés and dress professionally. Free food and giveaways will be available.

Visual and Performing Arts

The Center for Fine and Performing Arts will present a full lineup of theater, music and visual art throughout the fall. Highlights include Jazz Night on Oct. 20; Leading Ladies Nov. 6-15; the Messiah Sing Along on Nov. 17; the Holiday Choir Concert on Dec. 1 and the Holiday Band Concert on Dec. 3. The Fine Arts Gallery exhibition Through the Years... Best of Show: 1970s–Current, opens Oct. 19 and runs through March 4, 2027.
