There’s still time to register for Fall Term at Seminole State

The Fall Term at Seminole State College of Florida is underway, but there’s still time for students to begin or continue their college education in Seminole State’s 12-Week Session, which begins Sept. 14. Registration is open with space available in nearly 150 courses, so there is plenty to choose from.

With most classes being offered in online and remote format and safety measures in place for the limited number of on-campus, in-person courses, students can safely attend classes and move closer to achieving their academic and career goals. Virtual registration and resources from Student Services, including advising and counseling, financial aid, career services and more, are available to help students get started with 12-Week Session classes.

For students, starting or continuing their higher education without breaks has been shown to be beneficial according to a set of studies released by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics and summarized in an Aug. 25 article in Inside Higher Ed. The studies, which examined how students who first enrolled in college in 2011 fared within six years, showed that “more than half of students who were enrolled continuously (51.4 percent) earned a bachelor's degree within four years, compared to 17.2 percent of those who stopped out of college once and 4.8 percent of students who stopped out twice.” The studies also found that “students who started college more than a year after they graduated high school were about one-fourth as likely (12.2 percent versus 44.6 percent) to earn a bachelor's degree within six years.”

Earning college credentials doesn’t have to take years with Seminole State’s Rapid Skills program in partnership with CareerSource Central Florida. Through CareerSource’s Help is Here opportunity, Orange County residents whose jobs have been impacted by COVID-19 may receive funding for tuition, fees and books to complete career training through Seminole State’s certificate programs in associate project management, accounting specialist, business specialist, office support and residential staging. These certificates can be completed in 12 weeks or less and give students the skills they need for immediate employment. Students can also start their Associate in Arts (University Transfer), Associate in Science, or bachelor’s degree more slowly in fall and accelerate their progress in spring and summer or start at Seminole State this fall and transfer to the university of their choice after one or two semesters.

With staff providing assistance through the admission and registration process virtually, online academic support services, and financial aid, including CARES Act funding, available for eligible, enrolled students, there’s plenty of support to help students start now and succeed.
