Cristina Garcia of Lake Mary graduated from Seminole High School and started at Seminole State in 2017. Garcia, who plays the cello, says when she arrived at the College she wasn’t anticipating any experiences and opportunities as a cellist due to the lack of a formal string program.

She credits music appreciation professor Richard James, who encouraged her to join the music program and says it’s something that changed her for the better.  She joined the College’s Symphonic Band and used her passion for stringed instruments to initiate a strings club and served as the club president. She also credits her time as a work study student in the music department and working with music program coordinator Robin Parker for helping her develop both as a musician and a leader.

Garcia plans to transfer to University of Central Florida for a bachelor’s degree in music education and eventually pursue a PhD in Musicology.
