Competition Results

Thirty-five students participated in the 2023 intercollegiate programming competition. Participants were from Eastern Florida State College, Indian River State College, St Petersburg College, Santa Fe College, Seminole State College, and Valencia College. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours.  St Petersburg College took first place in the team competition for the gold track, followed by Valencia College, and Seminole State.  In the blue track, the same colleges finished in the same order. 

Individually the winners in the gold track were Hoang Nguyen (SPC) in first place, Amanda Gouveia (SPC) in second, and Riley Sullivan (SSC) in third. Hoang and Amanda each correctly solved 8 of 8 problems.  Hoang finished in less time. Riley correctly solved 6 of 8 problems. 

In the blue track, the winners were Ali Ahmadiavin (SPC) in first place, Benjamin Neuenschwander (SPC) in second place, and Tolgahan Poyraz (VC) in third place. Ali and Benjamin both correctly solved 8 of 8 problems. Ali finished in less time. Tolgahan correctly solved 7 of 8 problems.

A group of 55 students from Eastern Florida State College (Palm Beach and Titusville), Indian River State College, Gulf Coast State College, Seminole State College, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, and Valencia College participated in the 2021 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on April 10. The competition was held remotely with each student competing from a location of their choice. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. In the Gold Division, first place was awarded to Chung To of Valencia College. Second place went to Jack Lin of Seminole State College. Gabriel Aldous from St Petersburg College, took third place.  In the Blue Division, Joshua Sheldon of Eastern Florida State College  won first place, Isaac Pierre of Eastern Florida State College took second place, and Alisha Yabczanka of St Petersburg College took third place.

Seminole State College won the Dr. Colin Archibald team trophy. St Petersburg College  finished second. Valencia College finished third in the team competition.

The 2020 competition was cancelled due to COVID 19.

A group of 80 students from Eastern Florida State College (Palm Beach and Titusville), Indian River State College, Gulf Coast State College, Seminole State College, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, and Valencia College participated in the 2019 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on April 6. The competition was held at regional sites in Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. In the Gold Division, first place and a $500 check were awarded to Frank Rodriguez of Valencia College. Second place and $250 went to David Fermen of Eastern Florida State College College. Joshua Welsh from St Petersburg College, took third place and earned a $100 check.  In the Blue Division, Robert Buhnerkempe of Seminole State won first place, Michel El Chalfoun of St Johns River State College took second place, and Kyle May of Eastern Florida State College took third place.

St Petersburg College won the Dr Colin Archibald team trophy. Valencia College finished second. Seminole State and Eastern Florida State College finished tied for third place in the team competition.

A group of 66 students from Eastern Florida State College, Indian River State College, Seminole State College, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, and Valencia College participated in the 2018 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on April 14. The competition was held at regional sites in Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Ian Orzel of Indian River State College. Second place and $250 went to Caleb Lum Shue Chan of Eastern Florida State College College. Justin Wong from Seminole State College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Eastern Florida State College won the Dr Colin Archibald team trophy. Seminole State and Indian River State College finished second and third respectively in the team competition.

A group of 89 students from Eastern Florida State College, Indian River State College, Polk State College, Seminole State College, St. Johns River State College, St. Petersburg College, and Valencia College participated in the 2017 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on April 9. The competition was held at regional sites in Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Bradley Glaser of Valencia College. Second place and $250 went to Evan Miller  of St. Petersburg College. Richard Lagow from Valencia College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Valencia College won the team trophy.

The prize money was donated by AAA.

The competition was held at regional sites in Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Taylor Gratzer, of Seminole State College. Second place and $250 went to Bryson Ewell of Valencia College. Klayton Killough, from Seminole State College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Seminole State College won the team trophy.

The prize money was donated by AAA.

First place and a $500 check were awarded to Richard Lagow, of Valencia College. Second place and $250 went to Frank Dean, also of Valencia College. Taylor Gratzer, from Seminole State College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Valencia College won the team trophy.

The prize money was donated by UCF.

The competition was held at regional sites in Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Richard Lagow, of Valencia College. Second place and $250 went to Frank Nkosi Dean, also of Valencia College. Marc Smith, from Valencia College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Valencia College won the team trophy.

The prize money was donated by SeaWorld.

A group of 45 students from Brevard Community College, Lake-Sumter Community College, Seminole State College and Valencia College participated in the 2013 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on March 16. The competition was held at regional sites in Central Florida. Competitors tried to solve eight programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Jordan Kicklighter, of Valencia College. Second place and $250 went to Richard Lagow, also of Valencia College. Jennifer Alexander, from Valencia College, took third place and earned a $100 check. Valencia College won the team trophy. Site winners were:

  • Zachary Brown at Seminole State
  • Ravel Attunes at Valencia College
  • Eric Richardson at Brevard Community College

Each site winner was awarded $100.

The prize money was donated by SeaWorld. Drawings for 20 other door prizes were conducted. Door prizes included gift cards, video games from Electronic Arts and souvenirs from Disney World.

Twenty-six students from Brevard Community College, Lake-Sumter Community College, Seminole State College and Valencia College participated in the 2012 Intercollegiate Programming Competition on March 17 at Seminole State’s Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. Competitors tried to solve four programming problems in a maximum of three hours. First place and a $500 check were awarded to Tyler Brazill of Lake-Sumter Community College. Second place and $250 went to Karson Kimbrel also of Lake-Sumter. Ravel Antunes from Valencia College took third place and earned a $100 check. Lake-Sumter Community College won the team trophy. The prize money was donated by SeaWorld. Jennifer Dirschel, director of community relations for SeaWorld, was on hand to award the trophies and the prize money. Drawings for 20 other door prizes were conducted. Door prizes included gift cards, video games from Electronic Arts and souvenirs from Disney World.
