What To Do in an Emergency
Evacuate during fires, gas leaks or major utility failures.
- Leave buildings.
- Take personal belongings (keys, purse, cell phone, etc.).
- Assist those with disabilities.
- If you're an occupant on a floor above ground level, use emergency exit stairwells to leave the building. Do not use elevators!
- Convene in designated assembly points.
Carefully monitor reports during tropical storms, hurricanes, tornado watches, flooding or other weather events.
- Monitor Seminole State Alert and the Seminole State home page, or call 407.708.2290 for updates.
- Complete your storm preparations at home.
- Stay informed and be ready to act if a warning is issued.
Take shelter during tornadoes or chemical releases near buildings.
- Stay inside until danger has passed.
- Go to the lowest building level, inner rooms and/or hallways.
- Avoid windows and glass.

- Wait for the "all clear" from police or College officials.
Secure the area if a potential assailant is reported near your location.
- Carefully follow all emergency instructions provided on the Seminole State website and/or emergency phone notification system.
- Lock or barricade building or room doors.
- Turn off lights and stay away from windows.
- Wait for the "all clear" from police or College officials.
If you hear "lockdown":
- If in danger, protect yourself and/or leave the immediate location.
- If not in immediate danger, lock all doors and stay away from windows.
If you hear "shelter-in-place":
- If in danger, seek shelter. Do not go outside.
- If not in immediate danger, lock all doors and stay away from windows.
If you hear "tornado warning" or "severe thunderstorm":
- Seek shelter immediately in the nearest building, away from doors and windows.
If you hear "all clear":
- Follow directions given by emergency personnel.
