Writing Support

Tutoring On Campus and Online
Writing tutoring is available at the Sanford/Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, and Oviedo campuses. Additionally, Online writing support is available live via Zoom and asynchronously via Canvas.
What to Expect
Writing tutors can guide you through identifying, understanding, and improving aspects of your writing. They can help also help you identify strengths and areas for improvement in your writing. You can seek writing support during any part of your writing process.
From understanding the assignment to asking questions about organization, grammar, and MLA, APA, and other style guides. ASC tutors strive to help you become a more confident writer.
Written Feedback (Asynchronous Tutoring)
Seminole State College writers can also receive written feedback from an Academic Success Center tutor. To receive written feedback, students can enroll in the ASC Writing Support Canvas shell. The link for that Canvas shell is located on the online tutoring webpage.
With asynchronous sessions, tutors provide written feedback that students can apply to their revisions and edits. Students and tutors do not communicate in real time during these sessions as they do during a live or synchronous tutoring session.
Similar to live tutoring, asynchronous writing support is learning-centered: Our tutors will guide students through identifying, understanding, and improving aspects of their writing. Tutors will not find every error that may be present. However, students are encouraged to submit their writing again, even on the same assignment, to continue a collaborative dialogue with tutors.
A tutor’s goal is for students to be able to apply what they learn on all the writing that they do in their coursework and in their careers. For that reason, we kindly ask that faculty do not require that their entire class submit their papers in the asynchronous tutoring space.
