Dr. Cheryl Cicotti, associate vice president of the School of Business, Health and Public Safety, understands the important role nursing serves in our community and how many more we will need as our population ages. Based on planned growth, our region will need 8,400 new nurses by 2023.

Working with her staff and Seminole State College of Florida, Cicotti is dedicated to making sure our community generates plenty of top-qualified graduates to meet the need. Seminole State boasts one of the top-ranked nursing programs in the nation, with a 97 percent job-placement rate.

“We are incredibly proud of our nursing program students and their continuing successes,” said Cicotti. “Our students’ scores reflect on their hard work and dedication along with an excellent faculty, challenging curriculum and cutting-edge technology.”

To aid in making sure students with the calling to pursue nursing have the resources and opportunities to do so, the Dr. Cheryl Cicotti Nursing Endowed Scholarship has been established at Seminole State College. Funds will be used to pay for tuition, fees, textbooks or any other items included in the cost of education.

This scholarship supports part-time students seeking nursing (RN) degrees with a minimum 3.0 GPA and who demonstrate financial need.

Paola Velez Rosado is enrolled in Seminole State's concurrent nursing program with plans to graduate with a bachelor of science in nursing by the end of 2024. She hopes one day to be either a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or a nurse practitioner.

Rosado understands how hard it can be to have a family member who is struggling long-term with a chronic condition and how difficult it can be for many families. Although she is only there for a short window in their lives it has always been her dream to positively impact people in any way she can, even if it is something minimal as a hand of kindness. She loves nursing because she can be a source of comfort to care for them and promote their safety throughout their stay. Working part-time at Advent Health to help support herself while in nursing school, Rosado has maintain a high GPA throughout her enrollment.

"Thank you so much for the opportunity to receive this scholarship. It is a financial blessing and will allow me to move one step closer into my dream of becoming a nurse." - Paola Velez Rosado
