The Colonel Frederick J. Burbach Endowed Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who have a passion for geography and are pursuing an educational pathway in international business. The scholarship was established by friends and colleagues to celebrate Colonel Burbach's long career as an adjunct professor of the social sciences at Seminole Community (State) College.

Following a 30-year career in the U.S. Army where he retired as a full colonel, Fred spent the next 15 years at the College, where he was known for his strong interest in history, politics, geography, religion and philosophy. He met and married Cindy Coulter Burbach, a colleague and longtime professor of economics.

Fred and Cindy were constant travelers across the globe. During Cindy's sabbatical in 1990, the two embarked on a five-month adventure throughout Europe. When Fred stopped teaching, he began a third career as a professional grandfather and cement layer (a back porch at one son's house, a beautiful waterfall, and a fishpond for Cindy, among many other projects).

Colonel Burbach's legacy and passion for education live on in the success of the students who have received his scholarship. In the last eight years, 13 awards have been made to students at Seminole State. Please join us in remembering the inspiration and great works of Colonel Burbach by helping the next generation of adventurers!

Success Stories

Ryan Hosler

student

"Just as Colonel Burbach enjoyed the areas of geography and international relations, I too will be majoring in international relations as well as business. I plan to further my education and obtain a law degree focusing on international corporate fashion law.  Thank you for helping make my dreams come true."
