New Moms - Lactation Support

Seminole State welcomes students and employees who are continuing their studies or returning to their jobs and plan to pump breast milk. Clean, private, safe spaces are the goal when meeting requests for lactation spaces.

Students – contact the Equity Officer at colemanb@seminolestate.edu from your College account (yourname@live.seminolestate.edu).

Include:

  • Campus(es) that you attend at times you plan to pump.
  • Day(s) of the week that you attend at times you plan to pump.
  • Time(s) of day that you plan to pump while on campus.
  • Location(s) at each of those times. Example: “I attend Sanford/Lake Mary. I plan to pump at noon. I am here Tuesday and Thursday. My class ends at 11:50 a.m. in Building S and at 1 p.m.,  I attend class in Building L.”  That helps the College when discussing your route to your next destination, and the College can plan a convenient location.

Employees – contact your supervisor or Human Resources Benefits at benefits@seminolestate.edu from your College account (yourname@seminolestate.edu).

Include:

  • Campus(es) where you are assigned at times you plan to pump.
  • Day(s) of the week that you are working at times you plan to pump.
  • Time(s) of day that you plan to pump while on campus.
  • Location(s) at each of those times. Example: “I work part time, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Oviedo on Monday, and Altamonte on Wednesday. I plan to pump at noon. I do not have a private office. In Oviedo, I am in Building F.  At Altamonte, I am assigned on the second floor.”  That helps the College when discussing your route to your next destination, and the College can plan a convenient location.

College Response

Seminole State will identify a space that meets the following standards:

  • Clean
  • Chair that supports sitting up straight
  • Flat surface for breast pump to rest
  • Easy access to electrical outlet
  • Lockable door
  • Window coverings that block any view of occupant
  • Signage “Occupied” or “Do Not Enter” for display when needed

Employees assigned to single-user offices that meet the standards above may use those offices for pumping.

Please allow at least one week to prepare the space. The College meets your needs by identifying spaces convenient to your enrollment or employment locations, rather than requiring travel to one specific space per campus. Special note: a restroom does not meet the standards above.
