Five Steps to Get Started

To sign up for GED® Prep courses, please follow the five steps outlined below. If you have any questions, email or call 407.708.2153 and we will walk you through the process.

  1. Apply: Students interested in GED® Prep in-person classes can submit an Adult Education Application in person to any of our advising office locations. You will need to submit official photo ID (driver's license, state ID card, etc.). New students must be 18 years old before the end of their first semester. Students interested in GED® Prep Online classes must apply at the Sanford/Lake Mary adult education advising office in building B, room 113.
Note: Students who have been expelled from school or referred to an alternative education program must call to make an appointment with the Adult Education manager before being considered for admission.
  2. Take the Placement Test: Before registration, applicants will need to complete a placement test called the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) in order to be placed in appropriate courses based on their individual needs. Students who do not score above the minimum will be referred to community resources to improve their skills before retesting. The TABE can take up to 2.5 hours to complete, so make sure you have enough time set aside when you are ready to take the test. You can view or download the TABE study guide.   Note: To qualify for GED Prep in-person classes students must achieve a 368 or higher in TABE Reading and 314 or higher in TABE Total Math. To qualify for GED Prep online classes students must achieve a 461 or higher in TABE Reading.
  3. Register: After taking the TABE test, you will meet with an advisor or student success specialist to review your test scores and to get placed in appropriate courses. Registration for GED® Prep Online classes is only available at the Sanford/Lake Mary adult education advising office in building B, room 113.
  4. Pay Tuition: Once you are registered, you must pay tuition to reserve your place in your courses. Tuition for GED® Prep courses is $30 per semester and can be paid at the Cashiers Office on any of our campuses. You can also pay online through your MySeminoleState Student Center. The tuition due date will show on your course schedule printout and on your MySeminoleState Student Center. Be sure to pay your tuition on time to avoid being dropped from your courses.
  5. Attend Orientation: Orientation is a mandatory meeting for all new students. Your orientation date will be scheduled with an advisor when you apply. Please see below for upcoming orientation dates, locations and other information.

Orientation is mandatory for all new students. At orientation, we will give an overview of our program, answer any questions you have, review test scores and estimate how long you will need to study for the GED® exam. Please note that there are separate orientations for GED® Prep in-person courses and GED® Prep online courses. Orientations for GED® Prep in-person courses last approximately one hour while orientations for GED® Prep online courses last approximately two hours.
