On Friday, Oct. 25, the Seminole State College of Florida men’s cross country team took home first place at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 championships.

The Florida College System Activities Association held the championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee where the Raiders swept the podium for the men’s competition. The top three finishers all came in with times under 30 minutes and set Seminole State up to outscore Lake-Sumter State College by 18 points for first place.

For the women’s competition, the Raiders had three finishers in the top 10 and placed third overall.

The wins come in just the second year after the return of the cross country program at the College. For his work developing the students and the program, Coach Octavius “Ocky” Clark was named Region 8 Men’s Coach of the Year.

The Raiders’ journey continues as the men’s team will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the NJCAA National Championships on Nov. 9.
