Seminole State College of Florida announced, Thursday, March 1, that it has renamed its Oviedo Campus in honor of the late Robert and Jane Lee for their financial contribution and commitment to the College. The renaming was presented to the Lee family, their guests and members of the College community at an intimate luncheon, held on what will now be known as the Robert and Jane Lee Campus at Oviedo.

In December 2016, Robert Lee signed a gift commitment to the College for approximately $4 million to establish the Robert and Jane Lee Endowed Scholarship.

Natives of Oviedo, the Lees were farmers and raised their children in Seminole County. Their son, Rick Lee, CEO of Citizens Bank of Florida, has continued the family’s great connection to Seminole State, once serving on the College’s Board of Trustees and as the current chair of the College’s president search committee.

“Robert and Jane Lee were fourth-generation Oviedoans," said Seminole State President Dr. E. Ann McGee. "They were humble and unassuming. They raised some great children and measured their wealth not in terms of money, but in terms of family and the good that they could do for others. During his lifetime, Mr. Lee provided scholarship assistance to students at Seminole State College and called them 'his kids.' Because of his belief in our students and his great generosity, Seminole County high school graduates will be able to pursue the career of their choice at Seminole State, graduating with very little, if any, student debt. Their success will be Robert and Jane Lee’s living legacy.”

In March 2017, Seminole State's Board of Trustees approved the Foundation for Seminole State College’s request that the Oviedo Campus be renamed in honor of the Lees. The campus opened in 2001 and sits on 181 acres, which includes a 120-acre nature preserve. It features state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories and offers students small class sizes and hands-on, real-world instruction.
