Service to others has always been a mainstay in the life of Professor Alan Kraft. Upon his graduation from Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, Alan enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became a USAF policeman. His first assignment was in Korea in 1968, at the time a U.S. Navy ship, the Pueblo, was seized by North Korean forces.  He later returned to the United States and was stationed at a  Strategic Air Command base in Michigan where he served as a security and K-9 officer.

After entering civilian life, Alan began a 20-year career as a policeman for the Daytona Beach Police Department and later in Anchorage, Alaska, where he attended various FBI schools and became a hostage negotiator. He went on to acquire a bachelor's degree and a master's degree.

Alan retired to the Cocoa Beach area and became a criminal justice professor for the Center for Public Safety at Seminole State College sharing his vast experience in law enforcement and preparing future generations of law enforcement for our community.

After his passing in 2013, a memorial plaque was installed outside the Center for Public Safety, and the Professor Alan Kraft Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to honor his lifelong public service and continue his legacy through future generations of law enforcement officers.  This scholarship offers financial assistance to students who are enrolled in the Law Enforcement Academy or crossover corrections to law enforcement candidates at Seminole State.

Success Stories

Noah Devoe

After just trying to make ends meet as a retail assistant manager, Noah finally decided to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a law enforcement officer where he is able to help people and serve and protect the ones who cannot protect themselves.  His goal is to become a school resource officer and make a difference in the lives of students.

" I became stressed when I began the Law Enforcement Academy because I learned I was going to receive less financial aid than anticipated, and I didn't know how I was going to afford it. Then I received this scholarship, and I felt a financial weight come off my shoulders. I am very grateful for this scholarship - it came just in time. Thank you for helping students go for their dreams." - Noah

Christopher Blaskowski

Christopher always had an interest in law enforcement growing up and how it helps the community. Originally he started to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering but ultimately decided to follow his dreams. His goal after graduation is to work in the Seminole County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, as he has a strong passion for dogs.

"This scholarship has allowed me to work fewer hours so I can focus on my Law Enforcement Academy classes. I am deeply thankful to the Kraft family for being so generous and providing such a wonderful opportunity for students like me."
