Give to the Officer Robert German Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Officer German in Uniform

Officer Robert "Robbie" German, a City of Windermere police officer, was known for meeting everyone with a smile and ready to assist those in need without complaint, no matter how complex the task.

A resident of Lake Mary since the age of 5, German played soccer in middle and high school, graduating from Lake Mary High in 2001.  He was awarded a scholarship from South Georgia College to study business during which time he took a job in airport operations that involved contact with security and police. It was then he realized that he wanted to become an officer and help keep a community safe. He returned home and graduated from Seminole State's Law Enforcement Academy in 2007 and soon joined the Windermere Police Department. At the time, Windermere was a small close-knit lakefront community of approximately 2,600 residents. Officer German was one of 12 full-time officers serving the community.

Police Officer Robert German was shot and killed on March 22, 2014, while investigating two suspicious people in the area of Conroy-Windermere Road and Horizon Circle at approximately 4 a.m.

Robbie was considered one of the best officers in the Town of Windermere. Smart, dedicated and eager, Officer Robert German could have opted to join a large Central Florida police department and climb the ranks. But Robbie loved the little southwest Orange County town of Windermere. He wanted to make a difference in people's lives; he was dedicated to the people of Windermere and well respected throughout Windermere.

Officer German's devotion to his family and friends and his dedication to excellence and service as a police officer is a shining example to which all should aspire. Established by family in his memory, the Officer Robert "Robbie" German Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student in each Law Enforcement Academy who is in the top 50% of the class and embodies the goals, character and personality of Officer Robert German.
