Writing Contests
If you are a Seminole State College student in good standing, you have the opportunity to win money and scholarships for your class writings and creative adventures.
Every spring, the English Department sponsors or co-sponsors writing competitions. Winners are awarded each year in April. You can find information about these contests below, or call the English Department at 407.708.2060 if you would like additional information.
Stephen Caldwell Wright Student Poetry Contest
Underwritten by poet Gwendolyn Brooks, this annual poetry competition is in honor of Dr. Stephen Caldwell Wright, a longtime Seminole State English instructor. The competition is open to Seminole State students who are enrolled in at least one class at the College. Each person can submit up to two poems, with no entry being longer than 30 lines. All winners will be published in the Chronicle and receive cash awards and one 3-credit hour scholarship each.
