BSC2950 Travel Study in Biology

This is a travel/study course combining preparation on campus, travel and study in the discipline of biology. Content is variable depending on the program in which the student enrolls and the specific topics to be covered. Students must be 18 years of age on or before departure. Travel Study - Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. This class requires department consent to enroll and meets 6 Fridays at the SLM campus, Room S-206. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. We plan on the study abroad class meeting on the following Fridays from 9:30 am to 11:00 am: Jan 15, Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 26, March 12-March 21 (Spring Break in Peru), and April 9.

High Impact Practices (HIPs) are research-based instructional practices that promote active learning and real-world application, empowering students to achieve higher levels of academic and personal growth. Study Abroad immerses students in a global learning environment, enabling them to engage with different cultures, academic traditions, and international perspectives. Through faculty-led HIPs programs, students live and study abroad, applying their coursework in unfamiliar contexts, honing intercultural competence, and developing self-awareness and adaptability. These experiences expand students’ worldviews, foster global citizenship, and enhance both personal growth and professional readiness
