Welcome from Dean Michele Cuomo

Welcome to Seminole State College of Florida's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts production of Cabaret presented by the theatre department. We are delighted to have you join us for this powerful and unforgettable musical experience.

Cabaret remains a beloved work not only for its unforgettable songs and captivating characters, but also for its timely and thought provoking messages. The show invites us to reflect on personal responsibility, artistic expression, and the cost of complacency during times of social and political change. These themes resonate just as strongly today as they did when the musical first premiered.

Our students, faculty, and creative team have worked diligently to bring this story to life with honesty, passion, and respect for its historical and emotional depth. We hope tonight’s performance entertains you, challenges you, and sparks meaningful conversation long after the curtain falls.

Thank you for supporting the arts and the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

~ Michele Cuomo

Directors Notes

Working on Cabaret has been an absolute joy. This cast and crew have brought so much talent, commitment, and heart into every moment of this process, and I have truly loved getting to create alongside such a talented, dedicated group of students.

What makes Cabaret so powerful is how relevant it still feels today. It reminds us how easy it is to look away, to stay comfortable, to let the world change around us without speaking up, and how dangerous that silence can be. It’s a reminder of the responsibility we have to stay aware, to stay engaged, and to use our voices. This story may take place in another time, but its message couldn’t be more present.

A huge thank you to our incredible designers, Cathy Cox, Eric Craft, and Nico Eubanks, along with our student choreographers, Matilda Day and Alyssa Leardi, and our dedicated crew for bringing this world to life. I’m also so grateful to our amazing box office supervisor, Christine Kindell, for making sure our audiences can share in this experience. A very special thank you to Distinguished Professor Dianna Campbell for her tremendous work as our musical director-your talent and dedication have been invaluable. And finally, I want to sincerely thank Dr. Cuomo, our dean, for her unwavering support of our program and our students-it truly makes all of this possible.

I'm so proud of what we've created together. And for tonight...leave your troubles outside and welcome to the Cabaret.

Enjoy the show!

Harriett Lake - Seminole State College Theatre's Benefactor

Harriett Lake’s philanthropic influence is evident throughout Central Florida. Not only was she a cheerleader for the arts, but a funder as well. Because of her support, Seminole State’s theatre program will continue to reap the benefits of her generosity for years to come.

Seminole State acknowledges with gratitude the $500,000 gift from Harriett Lake in 2015 that is now an endowed fund, honoring her legacy as reflected in the daily arts activity of the many students and patrons who attend theatre productions at the Seminole State College of Florida.

Harriett Lake grew up in a small town in western Pennsylvania, served in the Marines during the Second World War, and moved to Florida after the war. When she met her husband HY there, they moved to Central Florida, where Hy was a developer. They made much of their money together developing land in Central Florida. The couple jointly donated vast sums to local Jewish temples and other nonprofit organizations. HY passed away in 2010, but by then Harriett was a reigning philanthropist. There are more than 25 sites in Central Florida that bear Harriett’s name. She passed away in 2018.

“I am the keeper of the arts alive, because somebody has to do it, and I now think of myself as an occupation.” – Harriett Lake
