Workforce Education Advisory Committees (Procedure 4.0210)
Purpose
Advisory committees shall include individuals whose experiences, expertise, and positions represent a cross-section of occupations and industries within the community aligned with the college’s technical education programs. These committees shall assist the college with creating, strengthening, and evaluating our programs to better serve the needs of the students, and the business and industry community.
Organization and Governance
Advisory committees shall be formed upon the recommendation of the Associate Vice President for Workforce Programs and approval of the Vice President, Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer. They shall be formed for the purpose of serving a specific program or industry area. They shall be overseen and managed by the academic dean (or other designee assigned by the Associate Vice President for Workforce Programs) for the program area which is being served by the committee.
Membership
The number of members on a committee shall be set at the time that the committee is formed, and may include specifically designated faculty, community, industry or other persons, upon consideration of program needs, accreditation requirements (if any), and other factors.
Members are appointed for a two-year term. They may be renewed for a subsequent, consecutive two-year term without re-applying. A new application is required for any service thereafter.
Interested members shall apply for appointment. Member appointments shall be made by the Vice President, Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer.
The dean or designee charged with oversight of the committee shall be an ex-officio member. The committee shall elect a Chair, Vice Chair and secretary annually from its membership.
Members may be removed at the discretion of the Vice President, Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer due to poor attendance or other issues.
Meetings
Committees shall meet at least twice a year, once in the fall term and once in the spring term. Meetings may be held in person or virtually.
The dean or designee shall be responsible for scheduling meetings and preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair of the committee.
