This introductory course establishes the foundation of the Nursing curriculum through the 5Cs: Caring, Communication, Collaboration and Management of Care, Commitment to Professionalism, and Clinical Competence and Decision-Making. Students explore the role of the associate degree nurse within legal, ethical, and professional standards while developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential for safe, effective nursing practice. The course emphasizes health promotion, maintenance, and restoration across the lifespan and introduces the nursing process as a framework for clinical judgment and patient-centered care. The pharmacology and medication competency components focus on safe medication administration, emphasizing pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dosage calculation, and the “rights” of medication safety. Students demonstrate proficiency through simulation and competency evaluation, integrating pharmacological knowledge into nursing practice. The laboratory and clinical provide supervised opportunities to apply theoretical concepts, develop psychomotor and reasoning skills, and deliver holistic, evidence-based care in simulated and clinical settings. Students must complete this course with a grade of "C" or higher. Lab fee required.
