LEO0486 Firearms Instructor Update

This is a specialized instructor training course for law enforcement or corrections. This 24-hour course is part of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commissions approved Specialized Instructor Training program. This course will provide an overview of changes made to the Florida Basic Recruit Training (BRT) Program Criminal Justice Firearms Course and the Firearms Instructor Course. Instructors for this course shall have successfully competed this course as a student. Instructors shall also hold an active Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission General Instructor Certification and a High Liability Instructor Certification for Firearms pursuant to 11B-20.001, 11-B.0014 and 11B-35.001, F.A.C.

FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR UPDATE COURSE #1201 DATE: November 1, 2024 - November 2, 2024 HOURS: 8am-9pm (Day 1) 10a-11p (Day 2) total 24 hours FEE: Trust Fund (Seminole Region officers have seat priority) LOCATION: Seminole State College - GENEVA GUN RANGE INSTRUCTOR: Captain Shane Love This advanced specialized training course will provide student instructors with the required updates for the firearms qualification course and drills. This class is not a Firearms Instructor certification course, it will only provide the necessary updates for instructors who have completed the Instructor Course previously. Instructor students must possess a General Instructor Certification or be eligible for and apply for the General Instructor Certification and have previously passed the FDLE Firearms Instructor course. They should possess sufficient experience to meet the standard core of knowledge, pursuant to the requirements outlined in the course objectives. This course is competency-based, meaning the course may be completed in less than 24 hours, provided that sufficient time is given for all objectives, content, exercises, proficiency testing, and examinations. Training schools and instructors have the flexibility to redistribute topic hours in areas where greater emphasis is needed. Students enrolled in a Specialized Instructor Course must demonstrate the required proficiency skills outlined in this course, pursuant to Rule 11B-35.0024, F.A.C. For successful completion of this 24-hour course, students must satisfy the following requirements: 1. A score of 85% on the written examination based on the cognitive material provided in the curriculum. 2. Demonstrate skill proficiency for day and for night qualifications. 3. Students must qualify on all weapon manipulation proficiencies within the curiculum. Proficiencies: 1. Semi-Automatic Handgun: Day 38 round course / Night 18 round course 2. Malfunction, and weapon manipulation drills For the class – Students will need to bring 500 rounds of handgun ammo, flashlight, eye/ear protection, lunch, water, and should consider bringing bug spray, a chair and any other convenience items. Enrollment is limited to 24 students. Seat priority goes to officers from the Seminole County region.
