To commemorate Black History Month, Seminole State College of Florida will host a series of educational events across all four campuses, highlighted by musical and magical performances.

The celebrations kick off Feb. 2 with a musical performance by Brandon Martin who explores the importance of music to Black culture from the time of slavery through the Black Lives Matter movement. On Feb. 9, Magician Ran’D Shine will amaze audiences with his magical talents that have been featured in Hollywood’s famous Magic Castle and Penn & Teller’s: Fool Us.

The Black History Month programs are hosted by the Office of Student Life, Student Government Association and First Year Experience course.

In addition to the featured entertainment, Black History Month events will be held at each of the College’s campuses featuring African American history and trivia as well as giveaways and food depending on the campus.

“Celebrating Black History Month with programs like these not only provides fun opportunities for our students, but taps directly into our core values of learning and inclusion at the College,” said Randy Pawlowski, director of student development at Seminole State. “Black History Month gives us the chance not only to acknowledge the challenges and accomplishments of those in the past, but how we can take their messages into the future.”
