Fire Science

When fires blaze out of control, we depend on those skilled in fire science to maintain the safety, security and welfare of our communities. The Fire Science Program at Seminole State College prepares students for rewarding careers in fire services such as:

  • Professional firefighting
  • Fire safety inspection
  • Fire apparatus and emergency vehicle operation (ambulance/rescue)
  • Fire investigation

All fire science programs are fully accredited by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) and supported by local fire departments and the Seminole County Fire Training Directors' Committee. In addition, a high-profile advisory committee provides students with excellent connections to employers. Members include the chiefs of the Sanford, Lake Mary and Orlando/Sanford Airport fire departments and the chief of Seminole County's Department of Public Safety.

Florida certified firefighters and fire officers can receive college credit for state certification and training under the Fire Science Articulated Credit Agreement.
