Creating a Culture of Reading

Goal 2 of our Quality Enhancement Plan is all about creating a culture of reading at the College.

We are working toward achieving this goal by using the following strategies:

Facilitating Book Clubs

Watch our home page or our Facebook page for information on our book clubs. We will look at a variety of books and topics each semester.

Holding Special Events and Inviting Speakers

Each semester, we will invite speakers to the campus. These speaking events will often be followed by book signings. Visit our home page or our Facebook page for information.

Opening Read to Succeed Centers

Read to Succeed Centers are spaces where students can get books, enjoy reading, ask questions, get free stuff or just relax. Visit our Center on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus in J-004 or on the Oviedo Campus in F107. There is also a comfortable reading area on the second floor at the Altamonte Campus.

Setting Up Book Nooks

These take-a-book/leave-a-book kiosks are for your enjoyment. You will find at least one on each campus. The Sanford/Lake Mary Campus currently has seven (on the third floor of building L, on the first floor of building J, on the first floor of the Partnership Center, in the Student Center, on the first floor of the Science building, in the A building near student services, and in the Public Safety building). Feel free to take a book! If you would like to donate books, please bring them to J-004 on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

Establishing Campus Reading Liaisons

Keep your eyes open for our student ambassadors. This paid position talks to peers about reading and keeps track of our Book Nooks. They have special projects each term to continue to promote reading to the campus.

We hope that you will help us create a culture of reading!
