Foundation adds 15 members to Board of Directors

The Foundation for Seminole State College has added 15 new members to its Board of Directors as it gears up for a planned $12 million comprehensive fundraising campaign for student success beginning in 2015.

Dennis Bowman

New Foundation Board Chairman Dennis Bowman challenged members at the first meeting of the year on Sept. 24. Bowman’s message to board members: “One-on-one gets things done.” He encouraged board members to sit down with potential supporters of the College one-on-one to explore connections and areas of support.

The board also set an overall goal for the 2013-14 fiscal year of $2 million in total gifts and 1,000 donors.

Foundation Executive Director Dr. John Gyllin says board support and the addition of these new members are vital as the Foundation prepares for the launch of a major fundraising campaign next year.

“As the College’s 50th anniversary approaches, Seminole State has an incredible opportunity to change the lives of students and impact education in Central Florida,” Gyllin says. “These business and community leaders on our board have the passion and connections to help our fundraising efforts achieve great success.”

At the meeting, these members officially began two-year terms on the Board:

  • Jeffrey Bauer, representing the Board of Trustees
  • Richard Betourne, vice president, Wharton-Smith
  • Michael Dale, vice president of sales and marketing, Sentry Management
  • Karen Frenier, president, South Seminole Hospital, Orlando Health
  • Will Garner, owner/president, Garner Window & Door Sales
  • Paul Goddard, president/founder, M Paul General Contractors
  • Jonathan Kipp, director, medical services, Universal Parks and Resorts
  • Debra Lupton, CEO and chairman, TLC Engineering for Architecture
  • Kathleen Gallagher McIver, associate, RE/MAX Town & Country Realty
  • Barbara Miller, executive vice president, Central Florida Auto Dealers Association (CFADA)
  • Keith Raymond, regional executive, Popular Community Bank
  • Rebecca Rhoden, partner, Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A.
  • Shari Sandifer, founder and CEO, Avant Healthcare Professionals
  • Tricia Setzer, district manager, Duke Energy
  • Sonia Williams, chief communications officer and associate general counsel, Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas

In addition, four new officers were elected into leadership roles at the Sept. 24 meeting:

  • Chairman: Dennis Bowman, co-owner and sales manager, Florida Business Interiors
  • Vice-Chairman: Melanie M. Cornell, partner, HKS Architects
  • Secretary: Robert Baker, vice president, Moss & Associates
  • Treasurer: Charles Michael Lloyd, AVP, Wells Fargo Advisors

The Foundation recently celebrated more than $1.5 million in scholarship and program support for the College and its students in 2012-13.
