The English Department at Seminole State College of Florida recognized the winners of three student writing competitions during a ceremony on Wednesday, April 4.
Professor Webb Harris announced the winners of the Research Paper Competition:
All three Research Paper Competition winners will receive a cash prize plus a three-credit scholarship.
Harris also announced the first-, second- and third-place winners of “Veritas,” Seminole State’s short-fiction competition.
The Dr. Stephen Caldwell Wright Poetry Awards went to three students. “Swoon Me on the Deep,” by Anna Kimball, of Oviedo, was the winning poem. Honorable mentions went to Monica M. Webb, of Heathrow, for “of my lover’s arms,” and Michelle Semel, for “Ouija.”
The poetry awards honor Dr. Wright, a longtime English instructor at Seminole State.
For the second year in a row, a team of Seminole State School of Engineering, Design and Construction students won first place in the Southeast Region of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) competition.Read More »
