Seminole State College of Florida President Dr. E. Ann McGee is the 2013 recipient of the James B. Greene Economic Development Award, given annually by the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC) in recognition of an individual’s effect on the economic prosperity of Central Florida.
The award will be presented to McGee during the 2013 EDC Award Celebration at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando on Feb 28. She is just the second leader in higher education to receive this honor since it was established in 1990.
The award is considered the highest honor bestowed by the EDC.
McGee has served as Seminole State’s president since 1996. Under her leadership, the College has evolved from a single-campus community college to a four-campus state college. Seminole State, with 32,000 students, is currently the eighth-largest school of the 28 Florida College System institutions. The College has influenced the growth of the region by delivering an increase in graduates and a more efficient workforce.
Previous winners of the award include: hotelier Pat Engfer; former Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty; former Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings; UCF President Dr. John C. Hitt; Al Weiss, former president of Worldwide Operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts; and Al Weiss, a former SunTrust executive.
The EDC serves Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties and the City of Orlando. Since its start in 1977, the EDC, with the support of its community partners, has helped thousands of companies relocate, expand and grow in the four-county Metro Orlando region.
