Dede Schaffner, who served on the Seminole State College of Florida Board of Trustees for 10 years, has been named the recipient of the Florida Association of Community Colleges (FACC) Distinguished Service Member Award. The award recognizes outstanding and dedicated individuals who have demonstrated exceptional involvement in FACC through service to Florida's community colleges.
The award was presented at the FACC Gala on Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Doubletree Orlando.
Schaffner, who is a member of the Seminole County School Board, served three terms on Seminole State's Board of Trustees. A respected advocate of public education, Schaffner also serves on the board of directors for the College's Foundation. A Seminole State alumna, Schaffner and her late husband, Bill, started the first Dream Auction -- now called the Dream Gala -- to raise scholarship dollars for the College's students.
