Seminole State AHS and GED graduates receive scholarships totaling over $13,000

Four Adult High School students and three GED students were awarded scholarships to continue their education at Seminole State College of Florida during the Adult Education Honors Ceremony on Thursday, April 20, at the College's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. 

Adult High School student scholarship winners:

  • Jaime Faust, of Sanford, received the District Board of Trustees Scholarship. Faust plans to pursue a career in criminal justice.
  • Jennifer Coomer, of Winter Springs, received a Robert J. Schmidt and E.S. Douglas Scholarship. Coomer has a career interest in accounting.
  • Rebecca Looney, of Longwood, received a Schmidt/Douglas Scholarship. She is interested in veterinary science.
  • Brett Mundee, of Altamonte Springs, received a Schmidt/Douglas Scholarship. He wants to work in the medical science field.

GED Prep student scholarship winners:

  • Lormicia Bazil, of Apopka, received a Schmidt/Douglas Scholarship. Bazil plans to major in social work.
  • Anh Tran-Nguyen, of Oviedo, received a Schmidt/Douglas Scholarship. She wants to pursue a career in nursing.
  • Bobby Vickers, of Oviedo, received a Schmidt/Douglas Scholarship. He plans to study computer programming.

A total of more than $13,000 was given to the recipients. The Trustees Scholarship is awarded to the most qualified graduating senior, as determined by the principal, at each Seminole County high school. The Schmidt/Douglas scholarships were funded by donations to the Foundation for Seminole State College and allow the students to transition from the Adult High School and GED Prep programs to Seminole State’s college-level degree programs.

Seminole State’s School of Academic Foundations offers year-round GED preparatory classes to adult students, an Adult High School program that provides students a personalized education and English Language Studies programs that help students reach personal, educational and professional goals.
