Raiders earn national, local recognition for athletic and academic achievements

The Seminole State College of Florida women’s golf team and staff pose with the 2015 national championship trophy. All five golfers earned NJCAA All-America honors.

In the wake of a historic season for Raider Athletics, Seminole State College of Florida student-athletes have received national, state and conference recognition for their outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom during the 2014-15 season.

In total, 19 Raider athletes earned first-team, second-team, third-team or honorable mention distinction across the three sports in which Seminole State competes – baseball, softball and women’s golf. Nine athletes received All-America honors, and five were recognized statewide by the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA).

National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America:

  • Cynthia Bounleutay, of Rockford, Illinois: women’s golf, first-team
  • Josefine Garton, of Sweden: women’s golf, first-team
  • Sydney Legacy, of Lexington, South Carolina: women’s golf, first-team
  • Caitlin Huiting, of Pompano Beach: women’s golf, second-team
  • Heather Roberts, of Jacksonville: softball, second-team infielder
  • Ashley Sims, of Brooksville: softball, third-team outfielder
  • Nichada Satasuk, of Thailand: women’s golf, honorable mention

National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America:

  • Stephanie Adkins, of Orlando: softball, third-team pitcher
  • Morgan Williams, of Callahan: softball, third-team utility

All-FCSAA*:

  • Stephanie Adkins: softball, first-team at-large
  • Heather Roberts: softball, first-team infielder
  • Ashley Sims: softball, first-team infielder
  • Abbie Millete, of Jacksonville: softball, second-team catcher
  • Morgan Williams: softball, second-team pitcher

All-Mid-Florida Conference (MFC)*:

  • Stephanie Adkins: softball, first-team at-large
  • Abbie Millete: softball, first-team catcher
  • Rachel Minier, of Orlando: softball, first-team infielder
  • Kirvin Moesquit, of Deerfield Beach: baseball, first-team infielder
  • Pedro Rivera, of Orlando: baseball, first-team outfielder
  • Heather Roberts: softball, first-team infielder
  • Ashley Sims: softball, first-team outfielder
  • Morgan Williams: softball, first-team pitcher
  • Taylor Duggan, of Jacksonville: softball, second-team infielder
  • Mitch Reeves, of Winter Springs: baseball, second-team infielder
  • Luke Suchon, of Green Cove Springs: baseball, second-team infielder
  • Mick Tinny, of Winter Springs: baseball, second-team catcher

*All-FCSAA and All-MFC honors are not given in women’s golf.

All-MFC honorable mentions went to softball players Ariel Oglesby, of Belleview, and Tammy Garcia, of Ocala.

In addition to her All-FCSAA and All-MFC status, sophomore pitcher Stephanie Adkins was named the MFC Player of the Year. Adkins and freshman Morgan Williams were named NJCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week in consecutive weeks April 13-19 and April 20-26. Adkins and Williams both were named statewide Pitcher of the Week twice this season, and freshman Heather Roberts was the statewide Player of the Week two times.

The Raider women’s golf team placed three golfers in the top five at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s National Championship Tournament, and all five Raiders placed in the top 15 to earn All-America honors. All five golfers also finished the season ranked in the top 15 nationally in terms of stroke count average.

The Raiders performed just as well off the field as on it during the 2014-15 academic year. Stephanie Adkins, Cailey Chevrier, Samantha Forsberg, Caitlin Huiting and Abbie Millete earned nationwide recognition from the NJCAA for their academic performances, and a total of 19 student-athletes earned All-Academic Team honors at the state level.

Team highlights of the 2014-15 season included the women’s golf team’s first national championship and the softball team’s program-best 51-9 season record.
