Barnes & Noble chosen to manage Seminole State's campus bookstores

Seminole State's campus bookstores will be managed by Barnes & Noble College starting June 1.

Barnes & Noble College has been named the new operator of Seminole State College of Florida's three campus bookstores. The seven-year contract will transfer management of the bookstores on June 1.

"We are excited about bringing the resources of Barnes & Noble to the College," says Dr. Joe Sarnovsky, executive vice president for Seminole State College. "Barnes & Noble has an outstanding reputation and excellent brand recognition. The company is committed to providing affordable textbooks for our students on all campus locations."

Sarnovsky says Barnes & Noble College also is committed to having a significantly larger presence at the expanded Altamonte Springs Campus to serve students, faculty, staff and the community. Under the contract, Barnes & Noble would provide a new store on the Altamonte Springs Campus with at least 10,000 square feet of space that would include a convenience store and cafe. The current bookstore is about 1,000 square feet.

  • The Sanford/Lake Mary Campus bookstore will close May 28-May 31.
  • Purchases through the College's online bookstores are unavailable through May 31.

Online purchases will resume, and all bookstores will reopen under the Barnes & Noble name on Monday, June 1.

Under the terms of the contract, Seminole State students will have access to:

  • A variety of affordable choices for course materials, including a robust in-store and online rental textbook program, an extensive selection of used and new books, as well as digital content through its new Yuzu™ digital platform.
  • An expanded selection of Raider emblematic apparel.
  • Snacks and beverages.
  • Laptops and other technology products.
  • Gifts for alumni, friends and family.
  • School supplies and other educational materials.

Barnes & Noble College is committed to a smooth, successful and speedy transition for our faculty and students accessing the Seminole State College bookstores, Sarnovsky says. The company, which has handled many bookstore transitions, also has committed significant IT support during and after the transition.

Seminole State has bookstores at the Altamonte Springs, Oviedo and Sanford/Lake Mary campuses, and online bookstores. Barnes & Noble also will operate a temporary bookstore at the Heathrow Campus during rush periods.

With Barnes & Noble College's Campus Connect technologies, students and faculty will have access to the largest selection of course materials in several cost-saving formats, including new and used rentals, used, digital and new. These innovative solutions include course fee programs, multi-platform LMS integration strategies, real-time student financial aid modules, and Barnes & Noble’s simple Registration Integration online ordering system.

Seminole State is one of 48 higher education institutions with which Barnes & Noble College partners within the state of Florida, including the University of Central Florida. Barnes & Noble College operates more than 725 campus stores nationwide.

"We're very excited to partner with Seminole State College," said Max J. Roberts, CEO, Barnes & Noble College. "We're looking forward to working with the college community to offer campus stores that are focused on delivering a retail and digital learning experience that supports the school’s mission of offering a quality, affordable education."
