Professor Baboucar Jobe's rapport with students is renowned. Colleagues say that students are constantly lined up outside his door to speak with him not only about their classes but about his opinions on a variety of subjects. He's praised for being an excellent "role model for all students, including African-American students who rarely experience having an African-American male professor."
A former student, now a colleague, noted that Professor Jobe "brings a depth of cultural experience that enriches his sociology classes." A native of Gambia in West Africa, Professor Jobe's upbringing and extensive travels add insight and reality to his lectures on culture and society, and challenge students to think beyond the norms and expectations to which they are accustomed.
