LEO0466 Internet Crimes Investigations

This is an advanced/specialized training course for law enforcement or corrections officers. This 16-hour Internet Crimes Investigations course will teach the student about computer and Internet crimes, computer hardware and software, understanding networks and the Internet, financial crimes committed via the Internet, Internet concepts and investigative procedures, interpreting e-mail, legal update, and seizing computer systems at the crime scene. The class is taught at one of the Seminole State computer labs so that each student will have his/her own computer during class hours. Students will participate in practical exercises designed to reinforce each concept. At the end of the course, students will investigate a simulated criminal incident where the skills learned must be applied in order to solve the crime. Prior investigative experience is preferred, and a basic familiarity of computers is helpful. Students should have successfully completed the basic training course or have been exempted and possess sufficient experience and background to meet the standard core of knowledge. Students successfully completing this course are eligible for meeting mandatory retraining requirements.
