General Guidelines

Tutorial Assistance

Financial assistance may be arranged through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to offset the cost of tutoring for eligible students.

Monetary Allowances

The VA will pay up to $100 per month for tutoring services. The maximum amount of assistance available to any student throughout the duration of his or her entitlement is $1,200.

Generally, students may receive up to $600 in tutorial services without having their educational benefits reduced. All monies paid above this amount will be charged against their entitlement.

Students receiving benefits under Chapter 33 will not have their entitlements reduced, even if their tutorial assistance charges exceed $600.

Payment Procedures

  • Chapter 31: Seminole State College will bill the VA for tutoring services provided to an eligible student. Once payment is received, the College will distribute the funds to the student's tutor.
  • All other chapters: The VA will send tutorial assistance payments directly to the student. The student is responsible for using these funds to pay his or her tutor.
