Computerized Placement Test (CPT) Refresh

The Computerized Placement Test Refresh Program is for students who have taken the CPT within the last two years and would like to improve their score(s).

Students may attempt the CPT up to four times in a two-year period, with a minimum 24-hour waiting period between attempts. This limit includes any attempts made while in high school if CPT scores are indicated on the student's high school transcript.

Steps for Completing the CPT Refresh Program

  1. Purchase the appropriate subtest packet(s): Subtest packets are available at the bookstores on Seminole State's Sanford/Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs and Oviedo campuses.
  2. Begin studying: The CPT is a self-paced program. Suggested study time is three hours per subtest, or approximately nine hours for the complete exam. Since the CPT is a computerized test, it is important to practice taking it electronically. Seminole State has created an online practice area that will help you improve your CPT test-taking skills.
  3. Complete a Certificate of Study form: Before you can reattempt the CPT, you must submit a signed Certificate of Study form to the Assessment and Testing Center. Students who complete the Refresh course must retake the CPT before enrolling in college-level courses.
  4. Decide when you will take the test: CPT Refresh testing is administered on a walk-in basis on the Sanford/Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs and Oviedo campuses.
  5. Pay for the test: The cost to retake the CPT is $10, whether you reattempt one, two or all three subtests. Payment must be made at the Assessment and Testing Center before testing begins.
  6. Take the test: Visit your preferred testing location during regular testing hours.
  7. Follow up: Complete the online student orientation, and schedule an advising appointment with the Counseling and Educational Planning Department (CEPD). Your advisor will help you interpret your test scores and place you in the appropriate courses. You may go directly to advisement if you have already completed the online orientation.
