CPT First Time Students

Computerized Placement Test (CPT)

Preparing for the CPT is important. First-time test-takers should study for a minimum of two hours to ensure that their test results accurately reflect their English, reading and mathematics skill levels.

Steps for Taking the CPT

  • Begin studying: The CPT is a computerized test, so it is important to practice taking the test electronically. Seminole State has created an online practice area that will allow you to assess your abilities and improve your CPT test-taking skills. Click here to visit the CPT practice area.
  • Schedule the test: The CPT is administered on a walk-in basis at the Assessment and Testing Center on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus (A107); the Altamonte Springs Campus (ALT103); and the Oviedo Campus (OVF102). Testing hours are available on the Assessment and Testing Web site.
  • Pay for the test: There is no testing fee for first-time-in-college (FTIC) students who have not previously taken the CPT or had it reflected on their transcripts. Seminole State students who are retaking all or part of the CPT will be assessed a $10 fee. A $25 fee will be applied for non-Seminole State students who are not applying for admission to the College. Payment must be received before testing can begin. Contact the Assessment and Testing Center for more information.
  • Take the test!
  • Final steps: Complete Seminole State's online student orientation, and schedule an advisement appointment with the Counseling and Educational Planning Department (CEPD). Your adviser will interpret your test results and place you in the appropriate courses.
