The American College Testing Exam (ACT)

The ACT assesses your skills in:

  • English;
  • Mathematics;
  • Reading; and
  • Science reasoning.

The ACT is a placement exam at Seminole State. If you do not do well on a part of the test, it does not mean that you cannot enter the program. It tells us what your strengths and weaknesses are, so we can help you complete your program.

Who should take the ACT?

Florida requires students to take admissions or placement tests before entering a program. The test you take depends on the program you want to enter. You should take the ACT test if you:

  • Are entering a college-credit program (working toward an A.A. or A.S. degree);
  • Have not taken the SAT or CPT; or if you
  • Have SAT or CPT scores more than two years old.

The ACT meets the state requirements for students who are entering a college-credit program.

I've already taken the ACT. How do I transfer my scores to Seminole State?

You are responsible for making sure Seminole State has your ACT records.

  • Contact the facility where you took the test(s); they may be able to help you.
  • Speak with Seminole State's Admissions Department; they may be able to tell you who to contact to get your ACT records.
  • Visit ACT online or call 319.337.1313.

What should I do if I haven't taken the ACT?

Seminole State is a national ACT testing center and offers the exam four times a year. You can take the ACT at the Assessment and Testing Center; however, you must register for it by completing an ACT Registration Sign-up Form online or at any high school guidance department.
