Frequently Asked Questions

Is SCC a Project Management Institute™ (PMI™) Registered Education Provider (REP)?

Yes. SCC has been a global REP since 2005. We were the second community college in the nation to become a REP.

Yes. You will receive a professional certificate from SCC. In addition, these courses prepare you for the PMP ™ exam. You will need to contact PMI™ to arrange for the submission of your application and testing requirements.

Will I be Certified after Completing the Required Coursework?

No. You will need to apply for your PMP™ examination through PMI™ and take your exam through an approved Prometric testing center. These courses do fulfill the education requirement necessary to take the exam.

Are There Any Requirements to Sit for the PMP™ Exam?

Yes. PMI™ requires a high school education and:

  • At least five years of project management experience.
  • At least 7,500 hours in a position of responsibility over an eight-year period.
  • At least 35 contact hours of formal project management education (met within the completion of our program).

Are All Courses Required to Sit for the Exam?

Candidates must verify at least 35 contact hours of specific instruction that addresses learning objectives in project management. A time frame is not associated with this requirement; therefore, candidates can document all project management education hours regardless of when they were accrued. These hours must include content on project quality, scope, time, cost, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and integration management.

How Often is the Program Offered?

Typically, the program is set to run for open enrollment two times per calendar year; however, customized cohorts can be arranged for organizations who meet enrollment requirements.

What Is the Normal Schedule for the Program?

Typically, the courses are taught in the evenings (in lock-step sequence) with one cohort beginning in January and the other in July.
