Mentoring: The Unknown Advantage

Students walk through life every day unaware of the depths of their personality and leadership styles, as well as their potential for success. It is important that this "blind spot" in life be realized and eliminated. The most obvious, yet overlooked, key to discovering one's abilities is asking experienced and successful leaders to enter into a mentoring relationship because it often the influence of others to help us develop our true potential.

What Is A Mentor?

A mentor is a person who works with you to help you achieve your full potential as a person. Mentors can help you set specific academic, career and leadership goals and teach you what they have learned about becoming a successful student and professional. Many mentors are available to meet on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis.

Reap The Benefits!

The greatest benefit to having a mentor is the opportunity to engage in a one-on-one relationship with someone who is basically a teacher. A mentor can:

  • Provide you with new and different perspective on issues that concern you;
  • Help you develop more specific academic, career and leadership goals;
  • Help you become motivated to excel in areas you normally would have no interest in.
  • Offer many more benefits as well!

Student Leadership Mentoring Program "Shout Outs"

"The mentoring program has caused me to think constructively about my future as a leader. By exposing me to a leader-rich environment, I have received an opportunity I wouldn't have otherwise been privy to."

"Through my meetings with my mentor, I have learned to control how I react to the world around me. I have learned that there is always a choice. I am a new person; much calmer and more willing to take the time to see things for what they truly are."
