The Leadership Institute

Step Forward

The Student Activities Office sponsors a series of five weekend leadership retreats during the academic year for college credit and non-credit Career Programs students. Once a student has attended a Leadership Institute designed for new leaders, he or she is able to attend each and every Advanced Leadership Institute retreat.

Each Advanced Leadership Institute is an exciting weekend event with a series of seminars on leadership theories, personality and leadership styles, effective communication techniques, giving and receiving feedback, leading, supervising, and coaching others, appreciating diversity, working as part of a team, and group facilitation skills. Teaching methods include lecture presentations, case studies, role-plays, group activities, ropes courses, one-on-one feedback exercises, and journaling. Seminole State administrators, including the College president, the four vice presidents, and several program directors and coordinators, facilitate sessions at each of the Advanced Leadership Institutes and serve as on-campus mentors to interested students. Advanced Leadership Institute alumni currently serve as the officers of the Student Government Association and most campus clubs and organizations. In addition, Advanced Leadership Institute participants work as Student Ambassadors, Peer Partners, and Seminole State representatives at a variety of on and off campus events.
