Appointment of Instructional Department Chairs - 2.2400 | Based on board policy number and Florida Statute: | Effective Date: | | 1012.83 F.S.; 6A-14.411(8) FAC; SCC Rule 2.110 | 7/10/91 | Purpose: In order to organize many of the instructional units at Seminole Community College, faculty members are appointed to serve as department chairs. This procedure describes the process for such appointments. Procedure: - Using a process that allows for faculty participation, each instructional dean will submit to the Executive Vice President the names of faculty members being recommended for appointment as department chairs for the next fiscal year (July 1 - June 30), the recommendations will be submitted by the first duty day in February.
- After reviewing the names with each dean, the vice president will recommend a list of chairs to the Dean of Personnel Services for submission to the District Board of Trustees at the regularly scheduled March meeting.
- At the march Board meeting the Dean of Personnel Services will request that each recommended chair be placed on administrative leave and appointed to serve as department chair for the following year. Each chair will receive a twelve month contract and accrue annual and sick leave in accordance with college policy.
- Each chair will be given forty percent release time during terms I and II. Fifty percent release time will be given during term III. Additional release time must be approved by the Executive Vice President upon recommendation of the dean.
- Each chair will receive the department chair supplement approved as a part of the college salary schedule.
