Planetarium Outreach EventsWe Bring the Planetarium to You.The planetarium offers a wide array of outreach services for schools and the general public. In the past, the planetarium has visited public schools throughout Orange, Seminole, Lake and Volusia counties, as well as set up "sidewalk astronomy" events throughout the Central Florida area. If you are interested in scheduling a planetarium outreach, please email coordinator Michael McConville or call 407.708.2421 for more information. Public and Private School Outreach EventsFor nearly 20 years, the planetarium has served the public and private schools of Central Florida. For those schools whose distance or budget prevents them from visiting the planetarium, we offer several presentations that can provide the planetarium experience in your own auditorium or media center. For elementary schools, we recommend "Minds in Motion: Exploring the Physical World with Galileo and Newton." A live theatrical show, "Minds in Motion" introduces our young audiences to two of the most important scientists in history. We'll discuss the scientific method, along with gravity, forces and optics, with plenty of demonstrations and volunteer opportunities to keep even the most jaded student entertained. For middle and high schools, we can present any of our public shows, as well as customized presentations for topics that are most pertinent to your classes. Please note that we cannot fully replicate the experience of our full-dome shows (such as "Earth's Neighborhood"), but we will do our best to give students the best experience possible under the conditions. In the past, the planetarium has held outreach events or visited classes at the following schools:
Public/Community Outreach EventsThe planetarium specializes in public and community outreach events. Depending on the location and time of day, planetarium staff can bring out telescopes for sky viewing or multimedia projectors for guided tours of the solar system and beyond. We have held major events, including seasonal "sidewalk astronomy" evenings, at the following locations:
For public/community outreaches with telescopes, the planetarium staff requires a location that is directly accessible by vehicle and within easy access of electrical power. Staff can provide projectors, projection screens and a public address system if the facility cannot, for either indoor or outdoor events. |
